自述诗 Zìshù shī

（唐） 寒山 (Táng) Hánshān

时人见寒山，各谓是疯颠。 Shí rén jiàn Hánshān, gè wèi shì fēng diān.

貌不起人目，身唯布裘缠。 Mào bù qǐ rén mù, shēn wéi bù qiú chán.

我语他不会，他语我不言。 Wǒ yǔ tā bù huì, tā yǔ wǒ bù yán.

为报往来者，可来向寒山。 Wèi fù wǎng lái zhě, kě lái xiàng Hánshān.

A poem of Han Shan

A poem by Han Shan (Cold Mountain)/Tr. by Guodong

When people see Hanshan, they all say “he is fool.”
Poor clothes wrapping body, the looks can not attract any attention.
They don’t get what I say, and I don’t speak in their way.
Message left to the visitors, “Come on and face to cold mountain.”

When men see Han-shan
They all say he’s crazy
And not much to look at –
Dressed in rags and hides.
They don’t get what I say
And I don’t talk their language.
All I can say to those I meet:
“Try and make it to Cold Mountain.”
